Whether qualitative or quantitative approaches should be used and to what extent depends on the type of information you would like your monitoring and evaluation to provide. When it is possible and feasible, mixed method approach should be used. With such approach, the results can be quantified while explanation on why and how the results are in certain ways can be obtained. Qualitative and quantitative methods each have their own sets of strengths and limitations. They should be used to complement, instead of to replace, each other so that the program can generate the most useful information.

Culture, an elusive and illusive idea, has been conceptualized by more than one scholar as various kinds of ongoing, unfinished, criss-crossed, and/or busy dialogues, conversations, and intersections. If culture or a culture is unfinished conversations at a busy intersection, then how can we understand the cultures that engage another culture, such as Maya culture, in an ongoing negotiation? And what if there are many such cultures, that come – that approach – from near and far away, that Maya culture in various approximations of dialogue and contagious contact? Such questions make the mind spin in trying to imagine the exponential increase of intersecting and criss-crossing trajectories. If seems that culture itself would explore or implode, or both, from such criss-crossing into multiple fragments of texts, images, actors, agencies, objects, institutions, events, logics, semantic fields, lang uages, economies, media, technologies, and other debris. How then to navigate through these busy intersections to arrive at the cultures of Maya culture? In order remain on course to this destination of our journey, especially with so many detours, intersections, and dispersals, we, dear reader, must keep visual focus on the main pyramid of Chichen Itza, dedicated to the Yucatec Maya’s Feathered Serpent God, Kukulcan. If “I,” the author-function, will be your guide, Walter Benjamin and the thematic of reproducible image, will in turn be “my” guide into the aura of these ruins.
